چکیده

OBJECTIVE Two sequential (99m)Tc methylene diphosphonate (MDP) scans were performed on a 42-y-old woman with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, chronic right pyelonephritis and anemia. The initial scan showed reduced skeletal uptake with intense and diffuse hepatic uptake. Because these findings were similar to those seen when excessive hydrolyzed-reduced (99m)Tc colloids are present in the radiopharmaceutical, the scan was repeated after an adequate time delay. Increased skeletal uptake was evident in the second scan, but the hepatic uptake persisted. Although there are numerous causes of soft tissue activity on (99m)Tc MDP bone scans, the responsible pathologic entity is not always clear. This study reviews several possible reasons for such uptake, although the exact mechanism in this case remains conjectural.

Incidental thyroid uptake during 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate bone scintigraphy in oncologic patients

Introduction: Extraosseous accumulation of 99mTc – methylene diphosphonate (MDP) may be due to neoplastic, dystrophic, hormonal, inflammatory, ischemic, traumatic or excretory disorders. 99mTc-MDP incidental thyroid uptake is not frequent and is possibly caused by the presence of dystrophic or metastatic calcification, biopsy procedure and presence of beni...

Pathologic hepatic Tc-99m-MDP uptake in polyostotic fibrous dysplasia.

Fibrous dysplasia of bone is a congenital, sporadic developmental disorder characterized by immature fibrous connective tissue and bone deformities. Hepatic Tc-99m-MDP uptake is a rare, serendipitous finding during bone scanning studies. The present patient was a 25-year-old male who had severe polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. On Tc-99m-MDP (methylene diphosphonate) bone scintigraphy, increased a...

Increased uptake of technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate in muscles in the course of polymyositis.

A case of a woman aged 46 years with signs of rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure is presented. Coxsackie serum test was positive. Increased uptake of Technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) by muscles of thighs and calves was observed. After 1 year no increased accumulation of radiotracer in the muscles was found.

Isolated Metastatic Involvement of Sternum in Breast Cancer: a Case Report with Mini Review

body skeletal scintigraphy performed with 20 mCi (740 Mega Becquerel) of Technetium-99m Methylene DiphosPhonate (MDP) revealed diffusely increased tracer uptake over body of sternum and manubriosternal junction suggestive of neoplastic process. A focal area of benign uptake was also seen over left 2nd costochondral junction (Fig. 3). Contrast enhanced CT study revealed mixed sclerotic and lytic...
